The La Manga and Murcia region has many different museums. The main city of Cartagena is a major Naval port and therefore has Military and Navy related Museums as well as other archaelogical exhibitions.

San Javier has a museum dedicated to "the Nativity" and entirely different exhibitions on Nature and Reporters.

Los Alcázares is the location of a Museum dedicated to the development of the local air base.

Sea Museum

The Sea Museum belongs to the Fishermen's Association and it exhibits collections of large seashells, fish teeth, mollusc shells, miniature typical fishing devices from this area (such as the recently recovered "encañizadas", a gadget made of screen and net), collections of knots and cartographic maps, etc.

Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum

This 100-meter long exhibition is divided into different sections forming a chronological route. In the first showcases you will see some of the remains from the area, fossils and paleontological objects. Then you can move on to pre-history, where you will see those objects used by the Iberian peoples, and later on you will reach the sections on Roman, Medieval and Islamic history.

Lastly, you can visit the ethnographic section, showing objects from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, with materials such as the ration cards used during the Civil War, letters and photos showing typical situations in the lives of the inhabitants of San Pedro del Pinatar during the last few centuries.

The second room (main section and largest collection in the museum) contains all objects related to submarine archaeology that have been obtained from mari ne remains in the area which is being preserved. The whole exhibition has a didactic component and is supported by informational panels where you can find out about the details of the history and the origin of each sample.

Nativity Museum

Figures and scenes from the large-scale nativity scene that is set up every year in the roundabout, a master work of Nativity art showing a combination of religion and history and representing an ethnographical element of great interest.

Three are the sections: in the first one, a representation of the Mysteries in the life of Jesus; the second one deals with customs and shows typical images and professions practiced in the region; and the third one is an international sample of Nativity art.

Ethnographic Museum

Earth, sea and air in San Javier, where we can visit all the aspects of its history through different sections, such as daily life, family, social and cultural aspects of the area, the land and rural work and devices, the sea, with models of "encañizadas" and traditional fishing devices, the Air Force Academy, with a real plane and documents and the Archaeological Sample, etc.

Reporter's Museum

A permanent exhibition about journalist Tico Medina's life, with sections such as newspaper archives, journalist tools, characters, paintings, interesting facts, etc.

Cartagena

National Museum of Maritime Archaeology

Although its transfer to a new place in the Muelle de Alfonso XII is currently projected, it may be currently found in such a unique place as the Dique de Navidad. This museum, like the National Centre for Submarine Archaeology Research, was founded in June, 1980, although it did not open until 1982, celebrating the 7th International Congress for Submarine Archaeology.

The Municipal Archaeology Museum of Cartagena constitutes the main axis of the archaeological activities of the city and its region. Its collections, beginning from the 16th Century, kept increasing until they were finally collected in an old building that would become the first Museum, founded in 1943.

The Naval Museum of Cartagena, opened on July 8th, 1986, may be found in a beautiful modernist building. Its subject matter mainly covers the Navy in the Mediterranean Sea; the Submarines, Naval Construction in Cartagena and Mediterranean Cartography, etc.

Carmen Conde - Antonio Oliver Museum

In 1995, the local writer and RAE-member Carmen Conde agreed with the City Council of Cartagena to donate the furniture and equipment from her former living room and office in Madrid, as well as her invaluable archives-library.

All of this has been placed in the 'Ramón Alonso Luzzy' Cultural Centre, where one of the rooms faithfully reflects the atmosphere in which the marriage created part of their important work. Thus was born the Carmen Conde-Antonio Oliver Museum. Spanish Civil War Shelter Museum

These galleries, which were dug out inside the hill of La Concepción as antiaircraft refuges, were not finished due to the end of the war and was part of some of the works performed to build refuges for about 5,500 people. Since the city was the Naval Base for most of the Republican fleet, it was severely affected by the bombings.
